The First International Workshop on
Computational Creativity – The Uneasy Bedfellows of AI and the Arts, Humanities and Education
(CCUB 2026)

Co-located with IEEE AIxHEART 2026

As Artificial Intelligence rapidly transforms the STEM landscape, the Arts and Humanities have maintained a more cautious, often skeptical, posture toward AI integration. Uneasy Bedfellows is a specialized workshop designed to bridge this divide. We focus on the unique research questions, ethical hesitations, and creative opportunities that arise when AI intersects with Humanities, Education, and Art through Computational Creativity.

Central to our exploration is the shift from purely technical benchmarks to human-centered solutions. We highlight emerging methodologies which apply algorithmic problem-solving to traditional artistic domains like drama and film to address complex narrative, casting, and directorial challenges.

The primary goal of this workshop is to deconstruct the "fear" often associated with AI in scholarly and artistic circles. By providing a forum for artists, educators, and humanists, we aim to:

  • Identify specific barriers to AI adoption in non-STEM disciplines.

  • Showcase successful case studies where AI enhances, rather than replaces, human creativity.

  • Establish a path toward a symbiotic relationship where humanistic issues are solved with both technical efficiency and ethical integrity.

While this is a new workshop for AIxHEART 2026, it builds upon the foundational research of the coordinators in human-centric AI and narrative algorithms. It is designed to be a cornerstone for future interdisciplinary dialogue within the IEEE TransAI framework. The 180-minute block will be balanced as follows:

  • Peer-Reviewed Paper Presentations: Short, high-impact talks on new, unpublished research at the intersection of AI and the Arts/Humanities.

  • Invited Talks: Insights from thought leaders currently navigating AI integration in education and the arts.

  • Panel Debate: A moderated discussion titled "The Ethics of the Artistic Algorithm," focusing on the resistance and integration of AI in creative work.

  • Integrated Mind/Body/Machine Exercises: A unique, hands-on activity designed to physically and cognitively engage participants with AI concepts.
